The Central Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken a significant step in the high-profile ration distribution corruption case in West Bengal by filing the first charge sheet.
The document, submitted 46 days after the arrest of former state food minister and current forest minister Jyotipriya Mallik, claims corruption amounting to more than Rs 100 crore.
The charge sheet, presented in the City Range Court of Kolkata (Bankshall Court), includes not only Jyotipriya Mallik but also names ration businessman Bakibur Rahman and ten other organizations implicated in the case.
These organizations, existing only on paper, were allegedly used by Mallik and associates to convert illicit funds from ration distribution into legitimate money.With the charge sheet filed, the case is now set to proceed to trial.
